377 illegal immigrants including Bangladeshis detained in Malaysia.

The country's immigration department has detained 377 illegal immigrants including Bangladeshis in Malaysia. They were arrested in a joint operation by Malaysia's Road Transport Department (JPJ) and allied agencies.


This information was given by the country's immigration department in a statement on Thursday (November 16).


Those arrested were taken to the country's Selangor Semuniah Immigration Depot for further investigation. Those detained include nationals of Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Indonesia, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. Most of them are women.


The statement added that based on complaints from the public, the JPJ and Immigration Police set up checkpoints at 2 locations on the country's main access road to Putrajaya from Kajang and Bangi and detained them by bus. Most of them were trying to get out of bus yoga to work as local Alam Flora waste management and sanitation workers.


The detained migrants have violated the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Regulations 1963, according to the Malaysian Immigration Department.


The detained migrants were taken to the country's Selangor Semenyeh Immigration Depot for further investigation. However, the authorities did not reveal their names.


Meanwhile, if an employer engages irregular migrants in the country, they can be arrested under the Immigration Act 1959/63 where conviction is punishable by a maximum fine of 50,000 ringgit or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both.
